Roses have always had a very special meaning. In particular, they are symbols of beauty, purity, clarity and love. In addition, the flowers with their multi-layered petals are very decorative. Because of their symbolism and decorative effect, roses are often used in art and fashion. The rose colours red and pink dominate. The name of the colour pink is derived from the rose in many languages. In this respect, the use of the colour pink in a painting also refers to the rose and thus to its symbolism. The depiction of the portrayed lady in a pink dress therefore refers to her beauty, purity and clarity. In the painting depicting the Peruvian saint Rosa of Lima, there are a multitude of pink roses, some still in bud. Rosa of Lima is thus also given the attributes of the rose. In the portrait of the girl, the pink flower colour is used to express sensitivity and tenderness, while in the fashion stitches the use of the red rose stands for passion and energy. The highly decorative Papier Peint, on the other hand, uses the pink and white roses in a purely decorative sense and makes use of the magnificent effect that the rose can also stand for.
